Coating Information for External Doors
Wood is a natural material and its aesthetic appeal and durability cannot be replaced by man made materials. With a little care timber will outperform any substitute. Durability of Finish and performance of your door, this will depend on the following factors:
1. How protected from the natural environment is the door? Any surface will be eroded by weather, particularly UV from the sun. A recessed door or a door covered by a canopy will be protected to some degree.
2. General exposure level is also determined by the direction of the building elevation. An elevation facing South or South/West will always be subjected to maximum weathering.
3. What is the thickness and quality of any surface coating? Weather erodes coatings and the thickness and quality of the surface finish is a significant factor in the longevity of the protection.
4. A porch, canopy or deep enough sofit is essential to prevent your door from being overexposed to the elements.
Full Finishing with Urban Front UV Protection Clear Lacquer - Water based product
Your door is supplied with 1 Litre of Omnia Preserve and 1 Litre of Omnia Clear Lacquer per doorset.
Please ensure that your doorset is finished with 1 coat of Preserve and 2 Coats of Clear Lacquer BEFORE installation and exposure to the element, as failure to do so will cause damage to your door as a result of bare wood exposure to moisture. 2 further coats of Clear Lacquer are needed IMMEDIATELY AFTER installation to ensure that your door is fully protected. In total, 4 coats of topcoats should be applied. Because this product is water base and fast drying, this procedure can be completed in a short period. Drying time between coats is 2 to 4 hours.
Omnia Preserve is a low build coating that remains “tacky” to touch even when dry, and therefore it is not necessary to denib after the application of this coat..
Stir well before and during application, apply with a synthetic brush. Avoid over brushing as this will result in brush marks. It is extremely important to make sure that the finish is WELL INTRODUCED IN ALL THE GROOVES.

How to finish doors with stainless steel inlays
- On doors with Stainless Steel Strips apply both Preserve and Clear Lacquer over the strips to fill all the groves and wipe off the strip with a damp cloth as you go along.
- On doors with stainless steel plates(e.g Sorrento, Sorrento V, Ferrara), protect the steel with low tack masking tape and apply both Omnia Preserve and Clear lacquer into the grove between Steel and wood without leaving any marks on the steel.
APPLICATION: (Do not apply at temperatures below 5 or over 30 degrees Celsius)
Remove all door furniture including letterplate, handles, locks and hinges and apply the finish in all cut outs including the TOP and BOTTOM of the door and around all the frames. Lightly sand the door with 180 grit paper to remove any raised grain.
1) Apply 1 coat of omnia Preserve as supplied. Ensure that the surface is fully wetted so that the timber absorbs the product.
2) Apply four coats of omnia Clear (clear topcoat) to a wet film thickness of approximately 80 Microns per coat.
A light denib is required between coats of the Omnia Clear using a synthetic sanding pad (Scotchbrite or similar).

MAINTENANCE: It is essential to maintain your door by lightly sanding and applying additional coat(s) once every 2 to 4 years depending on exposure or when you feel that the coating is starting to erode. (Pls see our maintenance information).
